John Larroquette took birth in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mother Bertha Oramous was a department store clerk and father John Edgar Larroquette was in US Navy. During his childhood, John played reed instruments and in 1973, he moved to Los Angeles, California along with his family. He is also a registered member of the Libertarian Party.
During 1970s and 1980s, Larroquette battled alcoholism. John Larroquette likes to collect rare books and is a fan of New Orleans Saints.
In 1966, Larroquette portrayed a U.S. soldier in ‘Follow Me, Boys!’. In 1974, he appeared as the narrator of ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’. In the 1970s program ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’, Larroquette portrayed a WWII US Marine Corps fighter pilot, Lt. Bob Anderson. He also had an important role on the soap opera ‘Doctor’s Hospital’. While filming for 1981 hit comedy film ‘Stripes’, his nose was nearly cut off.
Larroquette’s best known performance is as Dan Fielding, a boorish, sex-obsessed attorney on Night Court. For his performance on Night Court, he won Emmy Awards in 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988. After winning four consecutive Emmy Awards, he asked not to be considered further for an Emmy Award.
Larroquette next appeared on The John Larroquette Show, portraying the character John Hemmingway. In 1998, he was seen as a guest-star on three episodes of the legal drama The Practice. His character was of Joey Heric, a wealthy, wisecracking, psychopath helped him to won him his fifth Emmy Award. In an episode of ‘The West Wing’, he was seen portraying Lionel Tribbey, White House Counsel. His next well known appearances were on ‘Second Sight’, a 1989 movie, ‘Madhouse’, ‘Blind Date’, ‘Stripes’, ‘Meatballs Part II’, ‘Summer Rental’, ‘Star Trek III: The Search for Spock’, ‘JFK’, and ‘Richie Rich’.
In 2003, Larroquette narrated the remake of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. During 2004-2006, he played the title role in the ‘McBride’ series of American TV movies. In 2007 and 2008, he was seen portraying Carl Sack in the TV series ‘Boston Legal’. He made guest appearance in the drama ‘House’, portraying a previously catatonic father awakened to try to save his son. On Chuck, he played veteran spy Roan Montgomery.
Larroquette is married to Elizabeth Ann Cookson and has three children with her.
