In Season 5 Episode 9, things went off center after the planned state execution of a death row inmate went not as initially intended. Ultimately, it was the corrections officer who decided to take the matter into his own hands and shot the prisoner. Apparently, it was not an ordinary happening so Denny Crane and Carl Sack headed towards Virginia to help the officer get out of the matter. On the other hand, while working together on the case of a woman named Martha Headly, Alan Shore tried to make it up with Shirley. The lady said that the reason behind her getting fired was that she voted for John McCain.
